First African migration of Oracle DB to EnterpriseDB
nTier have become the first official implementers of the EnterpriseDB (Postgres Plus) for one of its clients using the Compiere ERP solution. The solution at the Water Research Commission (WRC) initially worked with an Oracle DB but the client chose to migrate to the EnterpriseDB RDBMS because of its affordable cost of ownership.
nTier, who initially implemented the Compiere ERP and Oracle solution, where again contracted to implement the EnterpriseDB solution and to migrate all of the the data from the Oracle database to the new EnterpriseDB database. This included the migration of the table structures, the data, the procedures, views, triggers and functions. Extensive effort went into understanding the differences between the two database software systems specifically relating to the differences in the executions of the views, procedures and functions. All the necessary changes where implemented to these components to allow the Compiere ERP solution to work seamlessly with this new database software.
Anesh Meghraj, Director of Operations at nTier Software Services said he was relatively pleased with the almost painless migration. He paid tribute to the EnterpriseDB company and his team of software engineers for enabling this smooth and disciplined transition. He further stated, "Although some of the Adempiere or Compiere implementation that we have done with Oracle is different, we have learnt valuable lessons from our first migration and are confident of seamlessly migrating other Adempiere or Compiere clients to Enterprise DB where required."
